Record breaking hoop Jamie Kah will take a book of eight rides including South Pacific in the Flemington Cup 1849 (2800m).
She will be awarded the leading jockey at Flemington this season, a runaway victor with 23 wins so far including a memorable Group 1 aboard Nature Strip in the Black Caviar Lightning at Headquarters earlier this year.
The VRC can host a crowd of up to 7500 patrons to celebrate the season with members dining available plus general admission tickets via Ticketek.com.
Members can secure their place at the popular Punters Club event in The Peak, hosted by TAB’s Nick Quinn.
The highlight of the nine-race card, the Flemington Cup 1849, was introduced as a permanent race last year and represents an intriguing part of racing history.
It was first run on January 15 1849 in the paddocks adjacent to the Flemington Inn, near the site now known as Flemington Racecourse
Arranged by James Dunbar, licensee of the Flemington Inn, the inaugural running was won by Belzoni in a field of six.
Last year’s winning trainers of Exemplar, Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, will look to go back-to-back with South Pacific this year.
VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said Season Finale Race Day was a time to reflect on the incredible season at racing Headquarters.
“The 2020-21 racing season at Flemington has included many memorable moments,” Mr Rosich said.
“From Denis Pagan winning the Victoria Derby only a few months into his training career to Jye McNeil winning his first Lexus Melbourne Cup to more recently Jamie Kah setting a metropolitan riding record, it has been a season to remember.
“It’s been fantastic to have members at Flemington for winter racing and the new season brings with it a great sense of optimism that we will see more VRC members, owners and racing fans back at Flemington as we build up for a big spring.”
Saturday will also present an exciting opportunity for young horses and riders to showcase their talents at Flemington. The Rising Stars Final is restricted to Victorian apprentices who will battle it out for the title, while budding stayers will compete in the Byerley Handicap, the only 1800m race for two-year-olds held at Flemington.
The Byerley Handicap offers ballot exemption to the winner in either the Penfolds Victoria Derby or Kennedy Oaks later in the year with Aktolgali one to watch for trainer Robert Hickmott.
The VRC will also award the leading trainer at Flemington this season, with Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes in the lead on 12 wins but with the partnership now dissolved, Chris Waller only needs one more win to draw. Training partnerships Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra and Ciaron Maher and David Eustace sit on 10 wins each.
Gates open at 10:55am with Race 1 at 11:55am and Race 9 at 4:47pm.
