Statement from VRC CEO Steve Rosich: Season Finale Race Day

15 July 2021 Written by VRC

In light of new Victorian Government restrictions for Victoria, the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) can confirm that this Saturday’s Season Finale Race Day at Flemington will proceed without patrons.

The Club is working with the Salvation Army to ensure that food prepared for the race day does not go to waste. It will be donated to the Salvation Army and distributed to those in need. Flowers purchased for the race day will also be donated to a range of health care venues operated by the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

The VRC thanks members for their understanding and hopes to see a return to crowds for VRC Season Premiere Race Day at Flemington on Saturday 7 August.

Season Finale Race Day will go ahead under the same COVID-safe protocols that were in place throughout 2020, with the racecourse shut to all but racing industry participants and essential staff.

All participants and essential staff at Flemington Racecourse on Saturday are required to wear a mask at all times.

VRC members, owners and racing fans can enjoy the day from home via Racing.com and RSN. The nine-race card includes the Flemington Cup 1849, headlined by record-breaking jockey Jamie Kah and South Pacific who were dominant winners at Flemington on Country Race Day.

Kah will be crowned the leading jockey at Flemington this season, a runaway victor with 23 wins so far including a memorable Group 1 aboard Nature Strip in the Black Caviar Lightning at Headquarters earlier this year.

The leading trainer award will go down to the wire with Tom Dabernig and Ben Hayes leading on 12. With the partnership now dissolved, Chris Waller only needs one more win to draw even. He has Pancho engaged in the ATA Celebrates Women Trainers Handicap.

VRC members will receive the Race Day Communiqué tomorrow, with the TAB’s Nick Quinn’s tips and racing previews, the Members Facebook Trivia returning and plenty of interesting articles to enhance the at home experience.

The VRC Member Stakes will continue, with even greater chances to win and exclusive, money-can’t-buy prizes. Members can find out more and register at flemington.com.au/club-membership/vrc-member-stakes.

A digital racebook will also be sent to members via the Race Day Communiqué and will be available for download on the Season Finale Day page.

The VRC team will contact all members, ticketholders and stakeholders directly to advise them of the relevant information, including rescheduling of race day events and refunds where applicable.

TICKET REFUNDS

  • All race day tickets purchased through VRC will be automatically refunded. This refund will be processed within 3-5 days.
  • All tickets purchased through Ticketek will receive a full refund from Ticketek.
  • We look forward to welcoming back as many patrons as we can for VRC Season Premiere Race Day at Flemington Racecourse, and as the situation evolves we will work with the Government and health authorities to act and provide further updates accordingly.
