Trainer Grahame Begg is in no rush with Samangu who will attempt to land a fourth straight win and remain unbeaten for the preparation at Flemington

Samangu has won three of her four race starts to date and heads to the Black Caviar Lightning Race Day, 15 February (1100m) on Saturday after a last start victory at Pakenham.

That success followed a first-up win at Ballarat before an impressive all-the-way victory on the Caulfield Heath circuit.

While the temptation would be there with a nicely bred mare to chase 'Black Type' and enhance her value as a future broodmare, Begg would prefer to keep Samangu to benchmark level for the time being while at the same time improving her racing manners.

Begg described Samangu as a 'free running' type and following an early study of Saturday's field does not see anything that can pace the mare early in the race, despite drawing barrier five under Craig Williams.

"It's the perfect draw," Begg said.

"She's free running, naturally fast, but it's not easy leading all the way, especially at Pakenham.

"I think it was pretty well displayed that day how hard it was to lead and win and it doesn't matter what distance you're running over.

"So, she put up a good performance and the horses which were up there with her they dropped off, so she put up a good performance and the form has been franked also." - Grahame Begg

"And she was just having a bit of a bit of a look around late to."

Saturday's outing will be Samangu's first in four weeks since that 1200m Pakenham success.

Begg sent the mare to the water walker for some 'R & R' and said Samangu had appreciated the time between runs.

"She's freshened up nicely and had a week down on the water treadmill and a bit of R & R and we're very happy with her," Begg said.

"There's a couple of nice benchmark races coming up, so we're in no rush with her and we've still got a bit a wriggle room with where to go.

"We don't have to throw her in the deep end just yet, so we'll try to keep on building her record up.

"Hopefully, that's the plan."
