A day for commemoration.
This special day on the calendar is dedicated to honoring the sacrifices and bravery of Australian and New Zealand soldiers, as well as our equine heroes who have fought in wars and conflicts.
ANZAC Day Race Day was headlined by the Listed VRC St Leger (2800m) for three-year-olds, a race older than the Lexus Melbourne Cup that includes champion winners like Phar Lap and Tulloch. The 168th running of the feature was taken home by Ahuriri, under a stellar ride by Damian Lane.

Mounting Yard Ceremony
A traditional ANZAC Day Ceremony will take place in the Mounting Yard at 2:55pm allowing racegoers to pay their respects to current and former service personnel. The ceremony will include the laying of the wreath, The Last Post, a minute's silence, the playing of The Rouse and performances of the Australian and New Zealand National Anthems.
Two-Up
A time-honoured tradition at Flemington, Two-Up will once again be back for ANZAC Day Race Day. Hear the historic ‘Come in spinner’ poem recited before the first spin at 12:30pm on the Flemington Front Lawn.
ANZAC Appeal Pins
Buy an ANZAC pin from the Watsonia RSL sellers located at entry points and roaming across course throughout the day to support the ANZAC Appeal. Eftpos and cash accepted.
Plant a Poppy
The red poppy is recognised as a commemorative flower of remembrance, reminding us of those who lost their lives or suffered in wars. For a gold coin donation, racegoers will be able to ‘plant’ a poppy on the Front Lawn creating a beautiful poppy installation with proceeds supporting the ANZAC Day Proceeds Fund.
Art and Heritage Displays – Harold Freedman OAM
Racegoers will be able to view some fabulous artwork by Harold Freedman OAM (1915 – 1999) across the racecourse. Harold was a local artist who was appointed as an official war artist in WWII. His works are now in the collection of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

Art and Heritage Displays - Colonel Sybil Irving
The VRC is proud to announce the Sybil Irving Trophy, a new race named in honour of Colonel Sybil Irving who was instrumental in the development of the Australian Women’s Army Service. Members will be able to read about her life story in The Atrium.

Art and Heritage Displays - Air Raid Precaution
Also in The Atrium will be Air Raid Precaution displays. During WWII, Air Raid Precautions (ARP) organisations were established throughout Australia and became a significant aspect of the home front effort.
Flemington Family Lawn
Bring the kids and head to the Flemington Family Lawn where there will be the opportunity for kids to create their own poppy and write a letter to a current service man or woman. There will also be an array of lawn games, face painting and the annual tug-of-war with jockeys and the kids.

Visit the Saintly Place Sports Bar and enjoy the casual-style atmosphere with comfy lounges, pool tables, foosball, cold beers, and food specials. In-between races, sit back and watch the traditional ANZAC Day clash between the Pies and the Bombers!
