Join us for another edition of Inside Headquarters Live.  

The March edition of Inside Headquarters Live will delve into some fascinating racing stories and the latest Club news at this popular free event for VRC Members hosted by Michael Felgate.

We recap the 2022 Melbourne Cup Carnival and shine the light on Lexus Melbourne Cup Winner Gold Trip. Head trainer Ciaron Maher and assistant trainer Lucy Yeomans join us to share the story behind the historical victory. 

And with the Flemington Racing Spectacular in full swing, we look back on the 150th running of the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap with special guest Tony McEvoy – trainer of 2019 winner Sunlight.

​VRC Chairman Neil Wilson and CEO Steve Rosich will bring us the latest happenings from the Club and announce the lucky winners of the door prizes on the night.

Ciaron Maher 

Undoubtedly one of the best horse trainers in the country, his love for racing and his natural interest in training saw him commit to a career as a trainer at a young age. Learning from the best, he spent time with Bart Cummings, Aiden O’Brien and Willie Mullins before starting Ciaron Maher Racing with six boxes on his dad’s farm. ​With a belief that you never stop learning, in 2022 he was rewarded with his first Melbourne Cup triumph with Gold Trip’s victory.  

Lucy Yeomans 

Lucy Yeomans 

Assistant Trainer at Ciaron Maher Racing, Lucy has worked with Ciaron for over ten years and worked closely with Ciaron when training Gold Trip and was instrumental in achieving last year's Lexus Melbourne Cup win from the 6-year-old stallion. ​Her love and passion for horses has always been her trademark, with a previously had a successful career as strapper and track rider.

Tony McEvoy 

Tony McEvoy 

Co-owner of McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Tony McEvoy started as an apprentice jockey and rode more than 100 winners in his first few years on the track. He believes his riding background exemplified his skills as a trainer and he attributes this his ability to find quality horses. ​Tony has trained outstanding champions throughout his career, including 2019 Newmarket Handicap winner Sunlight, dual Cox Plate winner Fields of Omagh and three-time Group 1 winner Hey Doc. ​
