Ultimate autumn grand final for TAB Australian Cup Day

27 March 2024 Written by VRC

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) are preparing to host the must watch race of the autumn on TAB Australian Cup Day at Flemington this Saturday 30 March. The $3 million Group 1 TAB Australian Cup (2000m) is set to be the ultimate autumn grand final with the rematch of superstars Mr Brightside and Pride Of Jenni.

This year’s edition of the race is the one of the highest-rating fields in the past two decades, with seven Group 1 winners lining up in the feature, including last year’s winner Cascadian, TAB Champions Stakes champion Atishu and multiple Group 1 winning New Zealand mare Legarto.

The race day is supported by a strong undercard including the $500,000 Listed Lexus Roy Higgins (2600m), which offers the first golden ticket into the 2024 Lexus Melbourne Cup, and the $500,000 Listed Sunlight Classic (1100m), for some of the country’s best three-year-old sprinters including Inglis Sprint winner Estriella. Reigning Lexus Melbourne Cup-winning trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman have begun their 2024 Cup preparations and will saddle up Bagot Handicap winner Glentaneous in the Lexus Roy Higgins.

The Flemington Fareground continues and will feature free family fun with a special Easter flavour including appearances by the Easter Bunny, Easter arts and crafts, and a traditional Easter Egg Hunt. Racegoers can “feast and sip” on the Flemington Front Lawn and enjoy complimentary sparkling wine tastings courtesy of Treasury Wine Estate whilst snacking on foodie favourites including wood fired pizzas from 400 Gradi.

VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said event goers can expect a thrilling finale to the Flemington Racing Spectacular.

“This year’s TAB Australian Cup is a race for the ages and is the most anticipated race this autumn.”

“The road to this year’s Lexus Melbourne Cup also begins with the Listed Lexus Roy Higgins, which offers the first golden ticket into the race that stops a nation.

“Away from the action on the track, free family fun continues at the Flemington Fareground where it will be a haven of Easter fun for all ages. We are looking forward to welcoming people on-course to cap off a spectacular six weeks of Group 1 racing at Flemington.”

The VRC will be raising funds for the Good Friday Appeal in support of The Royal Children’s Hospital to provide world class care for sick children. Racegoers can donate directly to the appeal or via on-course tins.

Gates for TAB Australian Cup Day open at 11:30am with General Admission tickets available for $30 per person with children under 12 admitted free to Flemington. For more ticketing information visit vrc.com.au.
