Resimax Group Rapid Racing Day sees the top seven metropolitan jockeys tackle the top seven jockeys from the country in seven races at half-hour intervals on Friday afternoon. The acceptors are each drawn one of the jockeys, who will then race both for their owners but also for the city and country teams.
Among those most heavily supporting the raceday is the Robbie Griffiths and Mat de Kock partnership with 23 entrants, fresh off winning the Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) for the second time with Halvorsen.
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace (20), Symon Wilde (16) and Leon and Troy Corstens (15) are other strong advocates for the Rapid Racing concept, while Lexus Melbourne Cup-winning horseman Chris Waller is also among the 104 trainers who, between them, have entered 348 horses.
Victoria Racing Club (VRC) Executive General Manager Racing Leigh Jordon says that Resimax Group Rapid Racing Day has quickly established itself as one of the most fascinating meetings of the year at Flemington.
“We’ve had great support from a wide variety of trainers, from the biggest names to some trainers searching for their first Flemington winner,” Jordon said. “It’s pretty hard to go wrong when you’ve got the top seven metropolitan jockeys and the top seven country jockeys at one meeting.
“This day is one of our most special all year because there are many owners who will come to Flemington with one of their first opportunities to have a runner at the track. We can’t wait to welcome them to Flemington as we celebrate our third year of Rapid Racing.”
The first race will be run at 3pm, with the last at 6pm.
