The national competition encourages all Australians to share their favourite memories of Cup Week in 300 words or less.
An adaptation of Stevenson’s popular Love Letter to Racing event, traditionally held annually at Flemington Racecourse, Love Letter to Cup Week offers a range of prizes including four $100 Myer vouchers each week.
The overall winner will receive a TCL TV package valued at $999 and a $500 Myer gift voucher.
VRC Chief Executive Officer Steve Rosich said Love Letter to Cup Week is aimed at celebrating the great memories associated with Australia’s original major event.
“Whether your memories of Cup Week were created at Flemington Racecourse or at your local racetrack, watching the ‘race that stops a nation’ ™ at school or from overseas, we want to hear your unique, funny and entertaining stories,” Mr Rosich said.
“Were you born into a long line of racing lovers who can recite every Cup winner? Or maybe you were lucky enough to meet one of the greats like Bart Cummings or enjoyed a champagne with one of our many celebrity guests?
“Racing is full of wonderful stories and we want to hear yours.”
3AW’s Ross Stevenson said he was looking forward to hearing the passion people have for Cup Week.
“I’ve heard all sorts of stories from the Melbourne Cup Carnival, from the hilarious to spine-tingling inspiring,” Mr Stevenson said.
“It truly is a national celebration of everything Australians love, world class sport, food and entertainment and we can’t wait to share the Love Letter to Cup Week stories live with listeners on 3AW Breakfast.”
Entries are now open for Love Letter to Cup Week with people asked to submit their letter here. Some of the best Love Letters will be published for all to enjoy.
The 2021 Melbourne Cup Carnival begins with Penfolds Victoria Derby Day on Saturday 30 October, followed by Lexus Melbourne Cup Day on Tuesday 2 November, Kennedy Oaks Day on Thursday 4 November and Mackinnon Stakes Day on Saturday 6 November.
