To only use what was available in my materials cupboard. To reuse materials, not purchase any new materials. To use vintage fabrics where possible To make a headpiece that can reversed when worn. A gender-neutral headpiece. A colour-neutral headpiece. To recycle an old satin-edged sinamay bow. To use a custom-made hat block shape- which is a sustainable material and will last hundreds of years. Use PVA glue to stiffen- no nasty chemicals Use beautiful Vintage Aluminium and Silk bronze fabric and a mesh to create the leaves. To create a beautiful gold feather flower. My other name for this piece is ‘potluck’ to reflect the found object nature of this design and construction. The headpiece is gender-neutral, and the colour reflects a neutral palette. It could be worn at any race event. It's fluid, linear, sculptural- and sheer and as light as a feather to wear. It sits on a simple fine headband attachment. It’s a statement piece of headwear that is both modern and classical.
